American television game show presenter Robert William Barker passed away on August 26, 2003 (he was born on December 12, 1923).

From 1972 through 2007, he served as the host of CBS’s The Price Is Right, the longest-running game show in North American television history.

From 1956 through 1975, he was also the host of Truth or Consequences.

During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve. Barker had a part-time radio job when he was in college.

He relocated to California in 1950 to seek a career in radio. The Bob Barker Show, his own radio program, aired for six years. He started working in game shows.

With the game program Truth or Consequences, he launched his game show career in 1956.

He then went on to host a number of game programs as well as the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants from 1967 to 1987, making him the event’s longest-serving host.

In 1972, Barker started presenting The Price Is Right. In 2007, after commemorating his 50-year television career, Barker decided to stop hosting The Price Is Right.

Up until 2015, he made sporadic appearances for several years after his retirement.

Barker’s funeral date is yet to be decided.
