Roy's grandfather is a recurring character who appears in Pokémon Horizons: The Series.
In childhood, Roy's grandfather found a mysterious Poké Ball on the beach of his island. He kept it for years without knowing what it contained, until he gave it to his grandson. During that time, he often told Roy the stories of a mysterious Legendary Trainer.
Some time before the events of Pokémon Horizons: The Series, Roy's grandfather met Professor Friede.
In The Future I Choose, it was revealed that he used to read Roy a book about the Ancient Adventurer when he was little.
Roy's grandfather first appeared in For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, greeting his grandson in the morning, who was sweeping the front yard.
When Brave Olivine was forced to land on the island in The Treasure After the Storm!, he was asked by Friede about materials to repair the Brave Olivine, but they were interrupted by another island resident, who revealed that the Pokémon on the island were out of control. Friede then set out to try to solve this problem.
Roy's grandfather and his grandsonThe next night, when Roy infiltrated the Brave Olivine, the group opted to take him back home the next morning. When they arrived at Roy's house, Friede and Liko found out that he was Roy's grandfather and despite the reception, he showed hospitable and called them to lunch. During lunch, he gave to Liko and Friede some Pokémon inspired snacks, which inspired them to another way to fix the ship.
When the Explorers attacked the Rising Volt Tacklers, Friede left Liko in the care of Roy's grandfather, and the girl explained them about her pendant. When they saw the signs of battle, Liko and Roy left to seek help from the island's Pokémon, leaving Roy's grandfather at home.
In the next episode, when Rayquaza emerged from the ancient Poké Ball, he and other villagers witnessed the emergence of the Legendary Pokémon. After the Explorers left the island and everything calmed down, he explained what he knew about the Poké Ball, and revealed that he found it when he was younger near the beach and never knew there was a Pokémon inside. Some time later, after Roy decided to capture Fuecoco, he decided to give his grandson his blessing so he could go on a Pokémon journey, and explained to Roy that he was only talking about his dreams but now that he caught Fuecoco, he understood what being partners means and handed Roy his backpack with some supplies. At the end of the night, when the Rising Volt Tacklers finished repairing the Brave Olivine and Roy was ready to leave on the journey, he joined the other islanders in wishing Roy a safe journey.
As shown in The Treasure After the Storm!, Roy's grandfather appears to be the leader of the small island, being consulted by the other villagers and by Friede. Despite his difficult personality, the Elder is quite hospitable and welcoming to people. He is shown care deeply for his grandson, knowing that Roy's dream was to become a Pokémon Trainer, he packed his bag for him before Roy could tell him and allowed him to go on a Pokémon journey.
